Portfolio photos are easy to make meaningless. Anyone can post a picture of a nice room. What's harder — and more useful if you're trying to choose a contractor — is an explanation of what the job actually required.
So each project page here covers the scope, the parts that were genuinely difficult, and the decisions that got made along the way: why a particular sheen went in a particular room, how a two-story foyer was reached, what had to be repaired before anything could be coated.

Recurring themes
- The two-story foyer decides the quote. It needs staging, it takes disproportionate time, and it's the most-seen surface in a colonial. A quote that's much lower than the others has usually left it out.
- Trim is what makes a room look finished. It's the scope people cut to save money, and new wall color against fifteen-year-old trim makes the trim look worse than before.
- Prep is invisible and decisive. Degreasing a kitchen, washing an exterior, feathering a scrape edge, priming bare wood. None of it shows in a photo and all of it determines how the photo looks in five years.
